Purandar Fort Pictures, Saswad Pune

Purandar fort, around 30 KMs from Pune, is a huge well fortified fort with quite a history.Shivaji's Son Sambhaji was born on this fort. This fort was also one of the few forts captured by shivaji during his early days. Murarbaji Deshpande fought to death for this fort, by remaining loyal to shivaji and not surrendering the fort to Mughal forces.

Eventually shivaji had to surrender this fort. This fort has lots of darwajazas and structures and has a beautiful view of surrounding areas, including the forts of Torna, Rajgad, Sinhagad, Raireshwar. The fort has lots of abandoned structures of churches, bunglows and military training houses. Paragliding is also done by the army here. The twin fort of vajragad is in a sorry and abandoned condition.
