Naneghat (Nane = Coin, Ghat = pass) is a famous landmark near Malshej Ghat/Kalyan region due to its thumb shape. This pass has historic importance as it was used arond 200 BC as a trade route between the Konkan (Seaside) and Ghat (rest of maharashtra plateau).
Naneghat is about 50 KMs from kalyan on NH 222. A huge signboard at Vaishakare village is the place to get down from the highway. A 3 hour trek takes you on top of the world. From here one can enjoy the vast plateau, climb the nanacha thumb or trek to jivdhan fort.
It is specially adviced to take precautions during rainy season as part of the trek route encounters gushing waters. It is preferred to go on top via car and enjoy a nice long picnic day on this plateau.
