Lakshadweep Islands: Pictures & Images
LakshaDweep (laksha:one hundred thousand, dweep: island) is an archipelago (Cluster of islands) 200 to 400 Kms from the coast of Kerala, India. It is Union Territory of India with a population of around 60,000 spread over a dozen islands/atolls. The formation of these islands is quite interesting as depicted here.
Due to shallow and still waters (Lagoons) around lakshadweep islands the flora and fauna is rich and diverse, offering breathtaking colors and landscapes and beautiful underwater world including corals.
The Tip beach on kalpeni islands was absolutely unique and heavenly where one could see green ocean on one side, blue ocean on the other side with a white sand beach in the center connected to an island. The beautiful Photographs do not justify what the eye can see there.
There are 3 ways to reach lakshadweep for Indian citizens (For others there is only airway)

SPORTS (The Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports), in collaboration with the Lakshadweep Administration, which offers eco-friendly tourism and recreational activities in the islands. The holiday packages of SPORTS are reasonably priced and include food, stay and watersports facilities. Their official website is LakshadweepTourism.com. I had opted for their coral reef package which takes you to 3 islands in a span of 5 days and costs 9000 - 13000 INR. For coral reef package, the travel and stay is over the ship Tipu Sultan. This ship travels weekly to the islands carrying tourists and locals.

Via Air to an island which is costly and you are stuck on only 1 island. Also you need prior permission from indian government to stay.

Star cruises which only takes to these islands for 1 day and is not that economical
