The pic on this page is taken at Mumbai, India on last day of Ganpati/Ganesha festival, which is one of the biggest public festivals of hindu religion celebrated between 1 to 10 days.
Ganesha is the elephant headed mythological hindu god. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Freedom Fighter and statesman) started this festival to unite people, for freedom against british empire which was ruling india in 1893.
In Free India today, it is used as a medium for Social and Public awareness. Ganesha festival 2007 starts on 15th September.
On last day of the festival, people gather nears seas or rivers to immerse(Visarjan) the idols.
