This section has pictures taken at Mumbai, India on last day of Ganpati/Ganesh festival, which is one of the biggest public festivals of hindu religion.
Ganpati is an elephant headed mythological hindu god. Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak (Freedom Fighter and statesman) started to unite people, for freedom against british empire which was ruling india in 1893. Today it celebrated in Public places, apartments, homes, schools, trains !!
It is celebrated for 10 days (sometimes 11)
In today's Free India it is used as a medium for Social and Public awareness, especially to those who do not have access to media and other sources of knowledge and information
On last day of the festival, people gather nears seas or rivers to immerse the idols. Ganesh Chaturthi 2007 starts on 15th September.
