Hey great video! I was wondering, does the head or arm that reads and writes on the disk, ever come in contact with the disk?

Doesn't opening the casing pretty much kill the hard drive? I heard that if so much as a tiny particle of dust gets on the drive, it's over.

Pretty much yes. That's why I put the warning on the video description to not try this with a hard drive you actually plan to keep.

The question is, why post dumb comments such as yours? This video has made headlines in many sites, as well as being viewed almost 1 million times here on YouTube by ppl interested in the mechanics/workings of a hard drive. I have received emails from many students in Universities worldwide, interested in more.

And by the way, a Collage is artwork created by gluing together different material. A institution that gives you an education is known as a College. Notice the correct spelling.

iS3AN: Then why did you watch it? I suppose you didn't take English in "collage". What a stupid comment.

Simple operations performed by a hard drive with no cover, so that you can see what it looks like inside.

This experiment was performed on an old hard drive, do not try this with newer expensive hard drives, it is a bit risky.
